Movementworks contacted me to create some visual touchpoints for their theatre adaption of Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s eerie short story, The Yellow Wallpaper. Charlotte, hysterical and suffering from post-natal depression, is prescribed rest treatment by her doctor husband and confined to a yellow-wallpapered room for the summer of 1892. The walls are covered with complex patterns and secrets that unfold a story that explores mental illness, toxicity and patriarchy. I created a type-based logo, promotional postcards, posters, programmes, invitations, a small book of the script and art directed the photo shoot.
